The Human Body

After my surgery, I stopped to think about the wonders of the human body. Every individual who works in the medical field must study anatomy and physiology. Whether it’s the doctor or the nurse or the technician or the radiologist this is the one thing that they all have in common. Their focus might be different, however they all need to study the human body. Why? Because everything that they do, every action they take, every procedure they follow works with the healing process that God has designed in the human body. For instance, the surgeon works with the natural healing process that God has already designed. If he works contrary to that the patient will not heal. The infectious disease doctor works in collaboration with the immune system. If he did not work in collaboration with the immune system the patient would not heal. All their studies and training is to work with what God already has designed.

The Bible is clear, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” Psalms 139:14 When we look at the human body it has specific systems. We have the skeletal system, which all the other systems cling to for support. The skeletal system grows to reach a maximum height and width as part of God’s design. We have the muscular system, circulatory system, digestive system, respiratory system, lymphatic system just to name a few. Each system is unique, exceptional, and distinct to the rest of the body.

Then we have our brains. In order to function properly, the brain needs the right amount of oxygen, blood flow, nutrition and protection. Because all these systems are working correctly and in sync; we are able to see, hear, taste, smell, and the ability to feel. All these systems work in harmony. One system out of sync will cause the body to malfunction.

Evolutionists tell us that somehow, sometime, at some cosmic event, acids, and chemicals formed together to begin the spark of life. Yet many who hold on to these views fail to recognize that in order to sustain life, these various human systems had to develop simultaneously. If one system was behind schedule in the evolutionary schedule the human body could not exist, as we know it.

Second, is the issue of the human reproductive system. The human body, as well as most of creation exists in two counterparts – male and female. If one of the two was not properly formed mankind could not exist. Once again there is an issue with the evolutionary process. It takes more faith to believe in evolution than to believe we were created by the hands of God.

That is why all throughout the Bible we see the healing hand of God. We see the healing hand of God in the life of Hezekiah. “And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the Lord came to him, saying, Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the Lord. 2 Kings 20:4,5 We see His hand in the life of the widow’s son. We see the hand of God thru the life of Jesus. “The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.” Matthew 11:4,5

What about today? Does God’s healing hand still touch lives today? Yes! God still heals today. I have seen members walk who were told they would never walk. I have seen members in their late 80’s who were told in their 20’s that they have only weeks to live. I have seen members who recover from their hospital stay after they were told to call their families because they only have a few days to live. What made the difference? Prayer! Just like Hezekiah prayed unto the Lord, and God came and touched him with His healing hand. Today we have a God who still touches lives today with His healing hand. The Bible is clear. “Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.” James 5:13-15

God is still part of our lives. He is willing to touch our bodies. All in accordance to His will. However, we must pray. We must call upon the name of the Lord. We must come to Him with our hearts of faith. Here are some words of insight. “Christ is the same compassionate physician now that He was during His earthly ministry. In Him there is healing balm for every disease, restoring power for every infirmity. His disciples in this time are to pray for the sick as verily as the disciples of old prayed. And recoveries will follow; for ‘the prayer of faith shall save the sick.’ We have the Holy Spirit’s power, the calm assurance of faith, that can claim God’s promises. The Lord’s promise, ‘They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover,’ Mark 16:18, is just as trustworthy now as in the days of the apostles.” CCh 303.2

Today, as we rest and heal on the Sabbath, may we remember that God still touches us today with His healing hands.
